Billing options
Select Prepaid or Postpaid during signup. Once created, your account remains in that billing mode for its lifetime, so choose the option that fits how you want to manage cloud spend.
Add account credit before you provision. Usage draws down your available balance, and you need enough credit to create new services. Renewals or active usage may leave a negative balance; your next top-up clears that balance first.
Choose prepaid if you:
Use eligible hourly or monthly services first, then pay the invoice. Postpaid requires a credit card saved through Stripe. When usage reaches the initial billing threshold of CA$100 for personal accounts orCA$300 for organization accounts, an invoice is generated and the saved card is charged automatically. A new threshold cycle then begins. The threshold is not account credit or a permanent cap.

Data volumes are billed per GB. Shared replicated storage is available in both regions, and host-local storage is available in YUL-1. Root disks are included with your compute plan and cannot be changed. Standard volumes start at 10 GB.

Local storage data volumes are available in YUL-1. The available tiers and monthly prices are listed below.
Local volumes remain on one compute host and do not include storage-level replication or automatic host recovery. Use them for cache, scratch data, replicas, or workloads with application-managed recovery. Choose shared replicated storage when the workload needs recovery on another host.
Back up your data or replicate it at the application layer. Backups cost extra and are not part of the local-volume price.

Local NVMe avoids the network path, storage-node processing, and replica acknowledgements required by replicated shared storage. A 100 GB local volume uses about 100 GB of raw disk, while a three-replica shared volume uses about 300 GB before metadata and operating headroom. Local storage is faster and less expensive, but it does not provide storage-level replication, live migration, or automatic host recovery.
Choose local NVMe for application-replicated databases, caches, scratch space, build workloads, and data that can be rebuilt. Choose shared replicated storage for a single VM holding irreplaceable data or workloads that depend on infrastructure-level recovery.
